FILM & TELEVISION PRODUCTION. Chesterfilm is a creative collective specialising in film & video production for TV, Cinema, DVD and the Web. Drawing from a tight team of talented professionals, our passion for high-quality creative work ensures excellence on every project, from concept through to completion. At the helm of Chesterfilm is Matt Bird. An accomplished Director, Matt’s creativity and visual flair speak for themselves. From his drama work and music videos, to commercials and documentaries, Matt’s versatility knows no bounds. A perfectionist at heart, Matt’s genuine passion for his craft means a personal commitment to delivering the best result on every job. MUSIC VIDEOS. We love the limitless scope for creative expression that music videos allow. And our musical tastes are eclectic to say the least! Being based in Sydney has tremendous advantages, with a diverse range of stunning locations right on our doorstep, and access to leading production and studio facilities. When it comes to international artists, Chesterfilm can not only produce the video, but we can also manage all the logistics of bringing talent here – from booking flights and accommodation, to providing local infrastructure and support. This means a one-stop-shop for artists and record labels, ensuring a trouble- free experience, which adds volumes to the end result. For overseas productions we will send over key creatives (e.g. Director, DP) and source the remaining crew locally. All the post-production is handled back here in Australia: from editing, VFX and colour grading, to mastering and distribution. And with the best deals on facilities, combined with a great exchange rate, this means A LOT more bang for your buck. MATT BIRD – Director/Executive Producer. Matt’s innate ability for storytelling stems from an imaginative childhood which found an outlet through art, music and writing and eventually led him to discover filmmaking... the ultimate medium through which he could bring his dreams to life. At the age of 21, Matt’s graduating project at film school won the Shoot-IT competition for National Youth Week – a search for Australia’s next up-and-coming director. The film screened across the country at festivals and prompted Peter Castaldi (film critic on national ABC radio station Triple J) to declare: "Australian screens need a future and this is it!". In the years since then, Matt has made his mark as a talented director with a unique voice. He has directed some of Australia’s best acting talent, including AFI Award Winner Pia Miranda (Looking for Alibrandi), Clayton Watson (The Matrix: Reloaded), Gyton Grantley (Underbelly) and screen legend Chris Haywood (Shine). Matt’s music video The Wiz, for Los Angeles hip-hop duo People Under the Stairs, received an overwhelming response from their fan-base and has aired in high rotation on TV music channels around the world. He has directed several music videos for ARIA Award winners Bliss N Eso, as well as clips for Lowrider, Paris Wells, and Sinead Burgess. Matt’s distinct visual flair and fastidious eye for detail, married with the ability to stir strong performances in talent, have led to dozens of successful productions for agencies, record labels and networks alike. FEATURE FILMS. Based on his original screenplay, Matt Bird’s current feature-length project The Crossing (working title) is now at an advanced stage of development. The movie’s promotional trailer was screened at the Cannes Film Market where it received enthusiastic accolades. Chesterfilm also has other features in development, and we are always looking for exciting new scripts & projects. COMMERCIALS. When it comes to a brand, a product, or a business, effective communication is imperative. The first thing we do is to get to know our client, establish who the target audience is, and then generate creative solutions to engage and inform them. Chesterfilm can develop the creative directly for a client, or we can work with an ad agency to produce their script or vision – we’re used to working either way. Whether it’s a TV commercial or an online viral, Chesterfilm makes it a priority to understand the client’s needs, to offer innovative and cost-effective production strategies, and to execute commercials that are memorable and entertaining. CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS. We’ve had years of experience catering to blue-chip clients, government agencies, and the small business sector. Our team has produced a multitude of corporate communications content, including promotional videos, training & induction DVDs, live event coverage, company overviews, and employee profiles. Whatever the platform or objectives, Chesterfilm can take an idea and turn it into a successful reality, with efficiency and class. CLIENT TESTIMONIALS: “In this industry if a job is delivered on time, on brief and on budget, you’ve done well. In my experience with Matt Bird and Chesterfilm, you get all that and more. For a start, you get someone who listens. When Matt asks you questions about who your audience is, and what you hope the project will achieve, he actually listens and absorbs the information. The viewer stories he has delivered for the Hallmark Channel for the past 2 years have been exactly what we wanted, and the response from the audience has been overwhelming. You also get someone who cares. I initially engaged Matt on the strength of his creative vision, but he brings so much more to the job than that. His passion for filmmaking is obvious, his technical knowledge is impressive, and his attention to detail is frightening. He’s not afraid of putting in the hours, and neither was the editor (Matthew James) – they both took way more care finessing the job than any client has a right to expect. In short, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Chesterfilm. I’ll certainly be using them again.” Cameron Craig – Creative Director, Australasia Hallmark Channel NBC Universal Global Networks Asia Pacific “When we decided to shoot our music video for ‘The Wiz’ it seemed like an overwhelming prospect – flying from Los Angeles to Sydney to shoot a video which included coordinating underwater divers and helicopters. The Chesterfilm team went above and beyond every expectation we had from organization to execution. They not only delivered a quality product, but also captured the artistic spirit of what we were trying to achieve – without compromise. I can only hope we are fortunate enough to work with Matt Bird and his team again!” Thes One/Christopher C. Portugal President, Piecelock 70 Incorporated + P.U.T.S. Los Angeles, California “We have worked with Chesterfilm on a number of projects, including two TV commercials, and training films for our staff and volunteers. All the projects have worked really well for us – they help us to get our essential messages across in a highly professional, creative format, and we have seen volunteer numbers increase as a direct result. It’s a pleasure to work with Chesterfilm, and we are always confident that Matt will fully understand our requirements and deliver what we want – only better!” Madeline Townsend – Director, CVA Enterprises Conservation Volunteers Australia Ballarat, Victoria PAUL HOWARD – Cinematographer. Matthew has been editing professionally since graduating from film school in 1990, and has worked closely with Matt ever since they met in 1999. He’s cut everything from commercials to features, and TV programs such as SBS’s highly popular Life Support series. Matthew has an imposing knowledge of all things “post” – from cutting on Final Cut Pro and Avid systems, sound mixing and motion graphics, to building his own customised edit suite part by part from the ground up! Technical expertise aside, the true “craft” of editing is an essential but rare skill to find... and most importantly Matthew has this gift. Like a conductor, at his core is an innate sense of timing, and a sensitivity and dedication that he brings to every story. JAMES CROKE – Production Designer. James’ experience as a production designer started over a decade ago in theatre, when in 1997 he was awarded the ‘Lend Lease Scholarship for Design’ and began an internship at The Bush Theatre in London. After returning to Australia in 2003, James was accepted into the prestigious Production Design course at The Australian Film, Television & Radio School, and upon graduating he received the Fox Studios Award for Design Excellence and the Gilbert & Tobin Award for significant & promising body of work. James has carved a solid reputation for himself as an inventive & visionary Production Designer in all facets of film & television. His inspired designs bring an insightful and captivating aesthetic to Matt’s productions. BO TAM – Graphic Designer.
